Milan Salák is one of the significant Czech artists who emerged in the mid 1990's. A graduate of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (1999), he caught attention still as a student for his brilliant painting technique which he used in making extensive picture cycles (e.g. the car cycle from 1997 – 1998). At the beginning of this decade, he made a set of landscapes-maps from the bird’s eye perspective in which his love for aviation and the history of aviation as such was strongly reflected. A breakthrough from this point of view was his project “Lozenge” in which he made different forms of camouflage nettings of different colours which had been used by air force during World War I.
The current exhibition in the Gallery Behind the Wall is yet another elaboration on themes related to the history of aviation the broad conceptual view of which represents one of today’s facets of Salák’s work.
